An item worn on the feet to protect it from damage when walking is called a footwear or shoe. It is worn by people of all ages. It is manufactured in different shapes and sizes to fulfill the requirements of the people. The shoe materials also differ based on the type of shoe. The most common materials used to make a shoe are leather, plastic, fiber, synthetic materials. In some cases, mild glass is also used to make shoes.

There are various types of shoes worn today. While some shoes completely cover the feet even over the ankle, some covers up to the ankle and some cover only the base of the feet. The basic type of footwear is the one which covers only the bottom of the feet. These are normally called as slippers. They are held to the leg by a pair of straps which joins together at the front portion of the slipper. This type of footwear is not very secure to the feet as it can be removed easily with the slightest movement.

The other type of footwear fully covers the leg. It may be up to the ankle or even over the ankle. This type of footwear is made up of three parts namely sole, body and shoelace. This is the regular shoe worn by most men and women. The sole is the hard bottom part which can withstand weight and friction. The body makes up the remaining part of the shoe and the shoelace tightens the grip between the shoe and the leg. Unlike slippers, they cannot be detached easily without untying the lace.

The shoes worn by most women are different when compared to the regular laced footwear. These shoes will be made of synthetic materials and will not have a shoelace. Instead it has a large space in it when the leg fits.

Shoe lovers love shoes!  Shoes are not a good choice to buy as they need to be fitted to be comfortable but there are numerous novelty gift ideas to give the shoe lover.  Gifts can be classified into three main groups, practical, whimsical and elegant.

Practical ideas include gift certificates, calenders and books featuring shoe themes and key chains with shoe charms.   There are purses in shoe shapes and scarves or sweaters with shoe designs printed on them. Practical ideas are good because they have a useful function as well as catering to the zany charm of shoes.

Whimsical ideas cover the novelty range.  Almost anything goes here and if the gift is meant as a token or intended for the collector, then this is a great way to go.  From collectable miniature shoes to gourmet chocolates in shoe designs,  these cute little  replicas will find a home in any shoe lover’s  heart.  Consider cell phone charms or even a phone in a shoe shape. Jewelry boxes and jewel stands are a firm favorite.

Finally there are the elegant choice of shoe gifts.  These are for those who want to buy something of value and with a more sentimental and lasting flair.  Jewelry with shoe themes are very popular such as the Roberto Coin designer collection featuring a number of different shoes on a necklace.  More pricey than novelty gifts they have the classic style and endurance that will stand the test of time.

No matter what you budget or the reason for the gift, you can always find an appropriate gift in a shoe theme.  They can be both fun and practical at the same time or just amusing novelties.  Whatever the occasion, there is a shoe gift idea to match it.

A shoe is an item of footwear which is used as an outer covering for foot. It protects and comforts the human foot while doing various activities. There are different designs of shoes available in the market and it has varied from time to time and culture to culture. Shoes have become much stylish and fashionable than before. With the fashion, the design elements of shoes have also changed like before we get only flat shoes in market and now small heels, mid heels and high heels are in fashion. Likewise block heels, flats and boots are also used by almost all the youngsters now. Shoes are traditionally made using canvas, wood or leather but now petrochemical derived materials, plastic, rubber are also used. Even the jute and cotton type material is used for shoe making which increases the cost to be very high.

Parts of a shoe which helps in making it strong are the Sole: which is the bottom of a shoe, insole-the main part of the shoe which is lined in the interior and this absorbs the foot sweat keeping the comfort level of our foot neutral and giving a proper shape and position to the legs. Outsole: It is the layer which is directly in contact with the ground and it protects from external things like stone, glass pieces, rocks etc. The Heel: Which corrects and supports the position of the heel of foot, vamp-it helps the shoe to hold on to the foot. The materials used for making parts of the shoe vary.

Shoes can be maintained by polishing it; this is done for leather shoes and boots often used to clean the water content or the dust in shoes. Sanitization is done inside of shoes using some germicidal shoe trees or other cleansing methods to prevent the odor causing bacteria and to stop the growth of microorganisms.
